Roma people are considered as a great challenge to the (Central and Eastern) European Churches and societies. In Europe, they count about 12 million, with 70% of them living in Central and Eastern Europe. The divides between the Roma and the majority society are wide, as are the divides among the Roma and within the majority society. Many good initiatives take place at local level, but stereotyped images still dominate the media. Hardly any research has been done into the relationship of the Churches and the Roma.
